There was only one kind of commercial ships in Greece. They were mainly called cargo ships and was the second most common boat in ancient Greece. It was all made out of wood except for the sails. These ships were used to transport exports and imports. The cargo ships made Greece prosperous because it was harder to travel by land and over mountains. Greeks used paddles and oars to power ships also like the warships. Ships were pretty heavy weight. At first, they were weighed 150 pounds during the 400 B.C. Then in approximatly 240 B.C., they were weighed between 300 to 500 tons. Later, they made sails so that they would not have to put a lot of physical power when there was wind.
